Jimmy Andrex
Wakefield based Jimmy Andrex is a spoken word artist and musician who makes poetry you can dance to. Laurie Anderson meets Sylvia Plath, Phillip Larkin joins Kraftwerk...
The Fringe are new fans of Jimmy Andrex's razer-sharp social commentary delivered with a disarming northern accent. Spoken words that cut to the chase and resonate the mind, combine with mesmerising beats to reel you into his orbit. ...it's dead good stuff.
Tom Robinson on BBC6 Music said it’s “superb” and “life-affirming.”
Poet Ian McMillan said the track 'Alec Clegg Still Dreams' made him cry.
But what do audiences usually say?
“You’re better than that John Cooper Clarke.” (Woman having a cig outside Hebden Bridge Trades.)
“I thought it was going to be shit, but it wasn’t.”
“How do you remember all them words?”
In these dark times, where we walk through the valley of the shadow of AI, I think I’m worth a try...

Distinctive summer music in a wonderfully authentic setting.

Henri Herbert & Band
Delighted to welcome Henri Herbert and his band back to the Fringe.
Henri first played the Fringe back in 2015 leaving our ‘new’ house piano steaming after a severe work over! Since then Henri has become one of the most sought-after blues and boogie pianists in the world touring extensively around the globe.
From an early age, Henri Herbert was fascinated by the piano-pounding pioneers Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, and Pete Johnson. Born in France and raised in the UK, Herbert broke onto the music scene as a member of the explosive rock revival band, The Jim Jones Revue. After testing the waters with his own band, The Fury, Herbert made the move to Austin, TX to immerse himself in the rich history of American roots music. He quickly moved up the ranks of professional players and made a name for himself selling out venues across both north America and Europe.
A video of Henri playing an impromptu blues "Gettin On Down" on the public piano in London’s St Pancras Station has reached an incredible 75 million views!
"Very few pianists on the planet can put as much sheer emotion or adrenaline-fueled virtuosity into their performances" - Matt Frost, The Blues Magazine
“Exhilarating, raw authenticity and power...fraught with sexual tension” - MOJO Magazine
“A triumph. Proves that piano rock n roll isn’t just relevant - it’s vital.” - Blues Matters
