Sculpture Music (Slot 1)

Great to have local Exeter musician (and artist of wood and clay) Matt Calder aka Sculpture Music back at the Fringe!

We love his dulcet vocal tones and mesmerising sounds and rhythms he conjured from his mystical instruments.

Matt often performs as a contemporary jazz/world fusion trio - but tonight he plays solo with his array of entrancing instruments: Hang Drum, Halo, Guitars, Electronica, Hammer Dulcimer and loop pedal!

A seasoned songwriter and musician, Matt is a familiar face on the local music scene being the man behind BalconyTV (Exeter) and now his own music TV platform Acoustica based at the quay side in Exeter.

Arrive in good time to enjoy this multi-sensory sonic experience!

Stables (Slot 2)

Chuffed to have ebullient, heartfelt alt-folk duo Stables back at the Fringe!

We love their brand of high-energy upbeat music, harmonies and their engaging barefoot performances - perfect for a summer's evening!

The pair formed in 2015 attracting early critical acclaim from BBC's Steve Lamacq, and BBC6 establishing them firmly on the circuit, with a growing fan base.

UK and European tours followed with the duo putting the emphasis on 'energy' when playing live; switching instruments and producing the sound of a full band, with big harmonies and varied styles.

'Cracking Stuff!' - Steve Lamacq, BBC Radio 2 & 6 Music

'Personal favourite' - Tom Robinson, BBC Radio 6 Music

Jonah Hitchens (Slot 3)

The boys are back in town! Great to have this talented bunch of mates back at the Fringe again.

Jonah Hitchens & the Superband are an exciting high-energy collaboration of Exeter-based musicians who join forces whenever they can to form a big, brassy soul-soaked 'Superband'. They clearly love playing together with plenty of enthusiasm and improv – producing an intoxicating mix of original and vintage Blues/Funk/Soul/ and R'nB'. With infectious groove laden rhythms, punchy brass and horn section, strong vocal lead and supporting harmonies – this group of talented musicians are an exciting live spectacle.

Jonah has also curated the Fringe Monday Marquee Sessions this year with a fine spread of musicians with a jazzy vibe - see Monday lineup

Tankus the Henge (Slot 4)

A big welcome to Tankus the Hedge who bring the Fringe to a frenzied, joyous, smokin' finale!

Originally based around the songwriting of singer/pianist Jaz Delorean and inspired by the hard graft ethics of an early 20th Century travelling show, Tankus the Henge will often play upwards of one hundred gigs a year in Europe. They have performed on stages across the world, from New Orleans to Albania, most places in between, including Glastonbury Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, WOMAD, and countless others.

Their funk-fuelled repertoire is wildly eclectic, ranging from explosive rock riffs to New Orleans swing, and an insatiable love for a good singalong round the piano.

“….a virtual carnival of sound that’s high on energy and deep on soul. With copious helpings of R&B, blues, funk, disco, Django, a dose of Dexy’s, a drop of Ray Davies and a pinch of Madness … – it’s an exciting mélange of sound.” – The Guardian
